'Aperi is IBM's second industry leadership attempt to control an open source project since Eclipse,' said an industry analyst who wanted to remain anonymous. 'EMC, HP and other players in the storage industry may stay on the sidelines and watch if the community idea will take off. The suscess or failure of today's announcement will not be apparent at least for two years. I don't expect EMC to rush to make an announcement tomorrow morning.'
