VMware Cuts China OEM Deal

Layered Technologies Launches Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualization
Layered Technologies announced their second major product release this June. Working in direct conjunction with Microsoft, Layered Technologies launched Hyper-V. Hyper-V, previously codenamed Viridian, is a hypervisor-based technology that is a key feature of Windows Server 2008, and allows virtualization of multiple operating systems (including Windows and Linux) all on the same server. It provides a scalable, reliable, and highly available virtualization platform.
Vancouver Coastal Health Leverages Akorri BalancePoint To Ensure Data Center Virtualization

Chelsio 10GbE Adapters Certified for VMware ESX 3.5 Hypervisor Virtualization
Chelsio Communications announced that its single- and dual-port 10GbE adapters are now certified for the VMware ESX hypervisor and have been added to the VMware ESX 3.5 Hardware Compatibility List. With this certification, Chelsio offers VMware customers low-latency adapters for high-performance computing in virtualized environments. This is another important step toward Chelsio's goal to enable unified wire networking for the agile data center by providing simple, standards-based solutions.
VMware Announces Change in Executive Leadership
VMware's Board of Directors announced that it has made a change in the leadership of the company with the departure of Diane Greene as President and CEO. VMware's Board of Directors has appointed Paul Maritz as President and CEO of VMware effective immediately. Maritz was also named to VMware's Board of Directors.

In a series of reports released in March, Editor Paul McWilliams advised readers it was time to buy specific tech stocks. All of his selections went up with some nearly doubling. Realizing the highs we were seeing in mid-May were unlikely to hold, McWilliams released a special report as the markets were peaking that month suggesting to his readers it was time to take some profits or at least hedge long positions with covered calls.
Peak 10 Chosen to Manage Apogee Virtualization Environment
Peak 10 has been chosen by Apogee Global Resources to support its enterprise-class delivery services. The company will receive a fully-managed virtual environment out of Peak 10's state-of-the-art Jacksonville facility. Apogee is relocating its headquarters from Columbia, S.C. to Jacksonville, Fla., which involves a merging of all company data and the consolidation of its division Web sites to the Peak 10 data center. Peak 10 will facilitate the company's data management and consolidation by providing Apogee with virtualization services as well as regular back-ups and network security to ensure data protection.
Server Virtualization Now Firmly Embedded in European Organizations
According to recent research from IDC, the pace of adoption of virtualized servers is incredibly rapid among organizations that are using virtualization, with 35% of servers purchased in 2007 being virtualized and 52% of those bought in 2008 expected to be so. 54% of those not using virtualization expect to do so in the next 18 months. While both large companies and smaller organizations are seeing virtualization as being key to their datacenter strategy, their next challenge will be to make more effective use of this capability.

The Cloud Wars - Is Guitar Hero a Cloud?
As the cloud-o-sphere tries to define this 'cloud' thing, myself included, it seems like the list of who is a cloud just keeps getting longer and longer. I originally thought the Forrester 11 list was a little to long when it included SalesForce.com and Akamai as cloud providers. The general consensus seems to be, if you are a SaaS, PaaS, or a IaaS you are probably a cloud and this makes the list even longer.

After much soul-searching but finding no 'compelling reason,' Intel of all people is not going to upgrade its 80,000 PCs to Vista except in a few places; XP is just fine, thank you, according to a piece on a New York Times blog that actually started in the Inquirer. That started people to wondering whether Intel, when it finally does upgrade, will go to the Vista-beholden Windows 7 or to Linux or the Mac, its newest hero. It also got other people to remembering that Intel exhibited the same resistance to XP when it was new. It took four years for XP to get 50% of the market.

VMware Releases "ThinApp" Application Virtualization

VMware Completes Acquisition of B-hive Networks
